WWE NXT Champion Bobby Roode recently appeared on The LAW: Live Audio Wrestling to promote NXT Takeover: Orlando where he will be defending his championship against Shinsuke Nakamura in the main event of the show. When asked about comparing where he was on last year’s WrestleMania weekend to this year’s weekend. He said that he thinks about it all the time and that last year at this point he was really on the fence and not knowing what his future was in pro wrestling. He said that being in Dallas for WrestleMania weekend was a huge eye opener for him and that he didn’t have the passion for wrestling at the time but wanted it to get it back. He said that being there on that weekend last year was very refreshing and was an opportunity to get that excitement back. He noted that from sitting in the front row of NXT Takeover: Dallas and watching Shinsuke Nakamura’s debut that night to now one year later walking into NXT Takeover: Orlando against Nakamura is pretty wild.
When asked about his goals in the company, he said that he wants to be the face of the brand and thinks that anybody in this business that hasn’t had that opportunity would give their right arm to be in his shoes. He said that he is enjoying every minute of it but made it a point to say that he would be lying if he said he didn’t want to go to the main roster. He said that he is content with being in a leadership role and being the champion in NXT. He said that it’s a learning curve to him as WWE is a different animal and that he had to learn different things. He noted that his goal is to main event WrestleMania one day. He added that he couldn’t be happier because he started as a fan and is now the NXT Champion and main eventing Takeover.
