Booker T: ‘This Era Is Definitely Going To Have A Problem With A Guy Like Gunther Being The Top Guy’

Booker T heaped praise on Gunther during the latest episode of his podcast, calling the World Heavyweight Champion one of the last wrestlers to truly master the art of the business. He specifically highlighted Gunther’s ability to maintain credibility in an era dominated by high-flying moves.

“This era is definitely going to have a problem with a guy like Gunther being the top guy, just because he’s not the guy that’s going to go out there and do some of the things that you know they will want to see. As far as you know, diving, flying, whatnot. He’s just a guy that knows how to do what I talk about, very, very well. He knew how to beat guys up very, very poetically. It looks nice when he beats guys up. It looks so real to life.”

The WWE Hall of Famer elaborated on the delicate balance Gunther maintains in the ring. “I mean, he walks that, that line I always talk about, you know, because, you know, before MMA, we really had nothing to really compare ourselves to. We could just pretty much go out there and do anything we wanted to. But when MMA came along, you know, we had to walk a certain line as professional wrestlers, just my point of view anyway, and we always had to know how to teeter and not fall off that line. And Gunther knows exactly how to stay on that line and make you believe in what he’s doing, even though this is professional wrestling. That’s the true art of this game, you know.”

Booker T continued, “I applaud Gunther, what he does in the ring, and what he what he still brings to this game, game, and how he keeps this game still that Shakespearean art that I love, you know, being a part of for so, so many years, he’s one of the last of the guys that that really go out there and do it like that. So I’ll give him a lot of credit.”
