News broke on Monday that WWE Backstage on FS1 is likely done for good as the network is cutting back on WWE and boxing programming in order to reduce costs.
It’s been reported that FOX told employees that the show is done in its current format. While there are currently no plans for any more first-run shows, the door is open to special episodes in the future.
The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion served as the co-host of the show alongside Renee Young. During a recent video that was posted on his YouTube channel, Booker T discussed the show ending.
“WWE Backstage, today, we got the news that we’re not going to be shooting a weekly series, not right now anyway. I want to thank everybody on the FOX family crew and making it work for eight months, it was an awesome eight months. Hopefully, the project will be a little different and going to do something digital. We don’t know just yet, we’re just waiting right now.
He thanked everybody for putting the show together and the support that it received in addition to being able to give him a platform to talk about WWE.
“A show like that is something needed to be able to deliver that side of insight.” He continued on by talking about Bret Hart’s appearance on the show last week and saying that he wished he would’ve stayed in WWE instead of joining WCW.
He thinks stories like that is something that needs to be heard by people. Booker T stated that he hopes they’ll be back on track soon and doing it again. He added that he wishes they could have done things differently at certain times such as taking the approach of The View and its format.
