WWE Hall of Famer and co-host of the Hall of Fame podcast on ESPN Booker T recently discussed former WCW President Eric Bischoff and whether he should be an inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame. When asked the question by fellow co-host Brad Gilmore if ‘Easy E’ should’ve been inducted with the nWo faction. Booker T emphatically responded by saying “no.”
Booker T on Eric Bischoff
“He did a lot of great things, like I said, he was one of the guys that said ‘Book I will make you rich man, just stick with me” Booker T began. “I’ve never had nothing but good things to say about Eric Bischoff. You’re never gonna hear me say anything negative about Eric Bischoff because, you know, he believed in something, he believed in one thing. And that was making all professional wrestlers just as highly paid as football players and all other entertainers in all other genres. He actually said and told me that. Very commendable. He did a great thing for the boys.”
Bischoff On WCW Television
Booker T would then elaborate further, saying “but on the other hand, I always thought when Eric Bischoff stopped running the company, and became a star on the WCW show; I think that was the beginning of the end. I think there was no way he could actually manage or micromanage, you know, the company from that perspective. There’s no way, when you’re in the middle of it, you have so much fun. People going crazy for you, man huge pops every week.”
The Beginning of WCW’s Demise?
Booker T would finish by saying how he believed this was the beginning of WCW’s demise, therefore Bischoff shouldn’t be included in the HOF. “I just thought that was the recipe for disaster, and the demise at the end of the day, for WCW. I just don’t know, people can say ‘well Vince McMahon, he played a part in the company.’ Well, it was his money. It was his company. Eric Bischoff was hired to do a certain job, and I say the same thing about Vince Russo.”
“Vince Russo was hired as a writer! He wrote himself into the show! When you start literally going into business for yourself, and you’re the guy who’s running the company? Reminds me of every one of these indie promoters; that’s never worked in a big company that’s never drew a house or anything. But have an independent company and they booked themselves as the champion of their own company. I just did not feel like he [Bischoff] should have never been a part of that show, from that perspective in WCW. He created it, that’s as far as it should have went.”
We do not know at this time if the Hall of Fame will be going ahead in April.
