On this week’s episode of WWE Monday Night Raw, it was announced by Stephanie McMahon that Braun Strowman would get his rematch against Universal Champion Brock Lesnar. Strowman would need to work together with his Survivor Series team on Sunday before he can get his title opportunity.
It’s no secret that WWE is looking for a top babyface now that Roman Reigns is out of action while he gets treatment for leukemia. If the plan is to coronate a new top babyface at WrestleMania then it does not look like Strowman will be the guy.
On Tuesday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that the Strowman vs. Lesnar rematch is not scheduled for WrestleMania.
Meltzer said, “This is subject to change but I was told directly that Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar is not gonna happen at WrestleMania so that could mean Strowman wins the championship before WrestleMania. It could mean a lot of different things.”
Meltzer also noted that Lesnar is not booked for next month’s TLC pay-per-view in San Jose so it looks like the Universal Title match will take place at the Royal Rumble. Meltzer said, “Since they directly brought up Braun Strowman challenging, it seemed like something that they’re not doing six months down the line. It seemed like something they’re doing for the next big [pay-per-view]. Right now Lesnar is not booked in San Jose, which would be the December pay-per-view so the one after that is the January pay-per-view, which is the Royal Rumble. That is what it feels like to me and from there, who knows.”
Meltzer pointed out that WWE has been protecting Drew McIntyre and he seems to be the guy with the laser focus. McIntyre checks off everything Vince McMahon looks for in a top guy so it would make sense if he is the guy picked to be the face of the company after WrestleMania.
