Further details about the factors contributing to Braun Strowman’s recent WWE release have come out. In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that the former Universal Champion’s departure on May 2, 2025, wasn’t solely due to general budget cuts.
Meltzer stated that other specific reasons were at play for Strowman, who was one of several talents let go by WWE in early May. The report indicates a combination of financial considerations and concerns over his physical condition.
“But there were other reasons in play as well,” Meltzer wrote. “Strowman’s release was said to be a combination of his high salary and injuries.”
The report elaborated on the injury aspect, noting its impact on his performance. “He had not been moving well in the ring since coming back from a major hamstring injury,” Meltzer continued, adding a significant internal perspective: “and one person there noted to us that he was hurt worse than people realized.”
