Tom Pestock, formerly Baron Corbin in WWE, appeared on the latest episode of Insight With Chris Van Vliet. During it, he brought up the rumor that John Cena and Vince McMahon were so upset that Husky Harris poked him in the eye on accident, which led to Harris going to NXT before reinventing himself as the Bray Wyatt character.
“I will start with the backstory of it. So when Nexus was up on television, Bray Wyatt was not Bray Wyatt. He was Husky Harris, right? We’re going back here. And there is a rumor that I believe is 100% true. That Husky poked John Cena in the eye in a match, and Vince was so mad. Cena was so mad that they sent Husky Harris back to NXT. We’re all grateful for that because Bray Wyatt was born, right? So this story of, like, and I’m gonna tease Randy because Randy’s a buddy of mine, but you’re always taught, like, don’t hit. Randy doesn’t like to be touched. Everybody’s kind of scared to work with Randy. And it’s not like that Randy’s tough. Sometimes, he’s a baby. Sometimes, Randy, I know you’re listening, you’re kind of a baby. I love you, but so this whole rumor of, like, scene has been poked in the eye a couple of times, and it sent Bray back to NXT for, like, two and a half years. Like, this was a massive punishment for that, right?“
Years later, during a July 2016 match, Corbin accidentally poked Cena in the eye and feared the same fate awaited him. Cena cussed him out during the bout by Cena. In Corbin’s case, Cena was fine after the match because he gave Corbin a receipt in the way of a stiff punch.
