Bret Hart signed a merchandising contract with WWE

Bret Hart has signed a deal with WWE, but it’s only a merchandising contract. As previously reported last week, the belief among people in AEW is that Hart had quietly signed a lucrative deal with WWE.

AEW believed that he couldn’t appear for them, which explains why Hart is managing FTR at the upcoming Big Time Wrestling indie event instead of in AEW. On Wrestling Observer Radio last Sunday, Dave Meltzer noted that Hart was under legends and merchandise deal with WWE.

However, Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that “Bret Hart said that his only deal with WWE is a merchandising deal and not any other deal.”

Meltzer noted that it’s not clear yet whether Hart could legally appear on an AEW broadcast or not.

Hart previously told Meltzer that he was never asked to be part of the presentation of the Owen Hart Tournament finals in Las Vegas at Double Or Nothing next month. Dr. Martha Hart is likely to be at the show for the tournament honoring her late husband and working with the promotion through her Owen Hart Foundation.

Hart has only made one AEW appearance since the promotion launched a few years ago, which was at AEW Double or Nothing 2019 where he unveiled the AEW World Heavyweight Championship.
