Bret Hart Names The Best Wrestler In The World Today

WWE Hall of Famer Bret “The Hitman” Hart has weighed in on the ongoing debate about who is the best professional wrestler in the world today. For Hart, the answer is the man who has long used “Best in the World” as his own moniker: CM Punk.

Bret Hart Names His Best Wrestler

While speaking with Complex Sports in a new interview (scroll down to watch), Hart was asked for his pick for the best in the business. After giving praise to other top stars, he gave his definitive answer.

“There’s a lot of really good wrestlers. I mean, I’m a forever Rey Mysterio fan. I love watching Rey even now today, especially as he gets older,” Hart said. “But I’m also a big fan of Roman Reigns, and I think if I had answered the question, I’d say CM Punk.”

High Praise For CM Punk

Hart’s choice of CM Punk is a significant endorsement from one of the most respected technical wrestlers of all time. Punk’s “Best in the World” nickname was a cornerstone of his character during his original WWE run, and since his return in 2023, he has worked to prove he can still operate at that same elite level.

Hart’s praise comes at a pivotal moment in CM Punk’s career. This past Saturday at SummerSlam, Punk defeated GUNTHER to win the World Heavyweight Championship, only to have Seth Rollins immediately cash in his Money in the Bank contract, ending Punk’s reign in a matter of minutes. The fallout from this shocking event and Punk’s quest for revenge on Rollins is now the central storyline on Monday Night Raw.
