Bret Hart has revealed that he point-blank refused to take Scott Hall’s Razor’s Edge finisher, saying the move made no logical sense from a safety standpoint and that he would stand by that decision to this day.
Speaking in an interview with Dominic DeAngelo of Studio 1 Sports, Hart explained exactly what went through his mind when the possibility of taking Hall’s signature move came up and left no ambiguity about where he stood on the matter.
“His finish where he would do that, what we call the Razor’s Edge, and he would pick you up and drop you on your head,” Hart said. “I remember I go, nobody is doing that to me, ever. I don’t care. And I would stand by that today. He goes, oh, don’t worry, I’ll set you down. I’m like, not on my fing head you’re not. No way. There’s no fing way. You’re 6’6 or something. You’re gonna fall backwards with me. The first thing that hits the ground is my head and my upper back. I said this doesn’t make any sense. It’s too dangerous, too stupid of a move for me to do. And I refused to do it, period.”
Hart’s safety-first philosophy was a hallmark of his in-ring career and something he has spoken about frequently over the years, having built a reputation as one of the safest workers in the history of the business. His concern about the Razor’s Edge centered on the physics of the move itself, with a 6’6 performer falling backward meaning the recipient’s head and upper back would be the first point of impact.
Scott Hall, best known in WWE as Razor Ramon, was a three-time Intercontinental Champion. He passed away in March 2022. Hall was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014 as Razor Ramon and again in 2020 as a member of the nWo alongside Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, and Sean Waltman.
