WWE Cruiserweight Champion Brian Kendrick, who defends his title against Rich Swann on tonight’s episode of 205 Live, recently spoke with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard to promote the show. Kendrick stated that fans can expect to be entertained by this show and that his character is someone who is going to use his wits to win matches.
After being with WWE for years, the company released him in 2009. During that time, Kendrick worked in TNA. WWE started using Kendrick in NXT this year. When asked about returning to WWE for the Cruiserweight Classic, “I think they liked what I did in the ring before I got fired.” He added that he thinks that WWE didn’t like his attitude when he was in the company before but he has changed that.
Once the Cruiserweight Classic wrapped up, he didn’t know what his future was in the company. “A lot of guys were getting contract offers throughout the tournament, and I wasn’t.” Kendrick noted that when he lost to Kota Ibushi in the tournament, he was told that WWE might want to use him in the future. Vince McMahon saw the tournament and talked to some people and hired Kendrick to work on the main roster in the Cruiserweight division on RAW. “I’m going to do my best to hold onto it and not be my own worst enemy anymore.”
