Brock Lesnar returning to UFC? + potential major SummerSlam main event spoiler (updated)

If what is being reported by the @TalkMMA account is true, then Brock Lesnar, who just turned 40, is likely to fight again for UFC and it’s looking like Madison Square Garden in November would be the target location and date.

Lesnar has not fought since defeating Mark Hunt at last year’s UFC 200 pay-per-view. It was later reported that he tested positive for clomiphene and that was thought to be the end of his career in MMA. Dana White has always been open to the possibility of Lesnar fighting again even though he didn’t seem too optimistic about it in December when he was interviewed by TMZ.

“I doubt it,” White told TMZ. “I don’t know how much longer he’s got with WWE. I think his career is winding down. But he’s a freak of nature, so who knows? Maybe he’ll give me a call and say he wants to do it again, but I think he’s ready to ride off into the sunset.”

The @TalkMMA account is reporting that Lesnar and Paul Heyman were spotted in Las Vegas during International Fight Week (the first week of July) and they had a meeting with UFC management. They are also reporting that Lesnar is back in the USADA testing pool and that his fight is rumored for Madison Square Garden on November 4. The account also claimed that the rumor is that Lesnar will be dropping the WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam. That would make sense if Lesnar needs to dedicate his time to training. It could also explain why the plans for the SummerSlam main event have changed. Right now, it’s looking like the match will be a Fatal 4-Way with Lesnar defending against Samoa Joe, Braun Strowman, and Roman Reigns.

The @TalkMMA account is considered to be a reliable account that has broken some stories in the past.

The one thing that strikes me as odd in this story is that Heyman was with Lesnar at UFC Headquarters. Lesnar has indicated in the past that Heyman is not involved in his MMA business. Yes, Heyman was in Vegas earlier this month but he was there working on business for his Looking 4 Larry agency. In this case, and this is just speculation on my part, I could see Heyman and UFC working out a deal to help promote the fight locally and on social media through Heyman’s agency.

If Lesnar is in the USADA testing pool then he would have been in there weeks ago in preparation for the fight in November and we are told that he has not shown up on the list of people that have been tested recently. We’ll see if this story pans out and if we hear more then we’ll post an update. The story on Lesnar’s potential return to the Octagon picked up steam after BJPenn.com quoted the news from the @TalkMMA account.

@FrontRowBrian, another account that has broken stories in the past, also believes that Lesnar is returning but he doesn’t think it’ll happen at MSG:

Lesnar’s WWE deal expires after WrestleMania so a UFC fight does not mean that his WWE career is done.
