Brodie Lee admits he took jabs at Vince McMahon during early AEW segments

Earlier this year when Brodie Lee joined AEW, the former WWE star did a few segments that appeared to be shots at Vince McMahon.

Lee, who went by the name of Luke Harper in WWE, had a good run in WWE, but towards the end of the stint, he wasn’t thrilled with the way that he was used and thus took his talents elsewhere.

Some of the segments saw him kick out fellow Dark Order members during a meeting because one of them sneezed, which is a famous Vince story about his hatred for sneezing. There were references to McMahon eating at Morton’s Steakhouse and stories of McMahon liking to be the first one to eat.

While speaking with Wrestling Inc, Lee confirmed that the segments were not meant to be negative, but rather funny shots at the WWE Chairman.

“Obviously, there was a couple of little Easter eggs and things that people could very easily pick up on, but as a whole, the character was never meant to be a Vince McMahon parody. But there was definitely a couple jabs his way in the early going. Once I realized that that was everything that people were going to talk about, I wanted to get away from that as quickly as possible because I wanted it to be more about me more about my identity and more about my journey to where we’re going. I didn’t want to be seen as that that bitter ex-employee. I don’t want that label on me whatsoever.”

Dave Meltzer reported around this time that some people were “very upset” about the shots at McMahon by Lee with the belief that those people were in WWE.

Lee stated about the report, “I have no problems with that whatsoever. I rather enjoy that and the thought of me, little old me, affecting someone there, that’s OK with me.”
