Since his arrival in WWE NXT, Bron Breakker has been pushed as a top star and someone the company can see being a big name once he’s called up to the main roster despite him just starting his wrestling career this year.
Some fans were surprised to see Breakker, the son of former WWE/WCW World Tag Team Champion Rick Steiner, not use the Steiner name. Most of the time when wrestlers sign with WWE, the company wants to give them a different name as they can trademark the name and have the ownership rights to it.
While speaking with Daily DDT, Breakker noted that the Bron Breakker name was his idea.
“We were just sitting around one day and I’m like, ‘Well, when I used to block people in football, I used to try to break them in half,’” he said. “That was literally what I tried to do: snap them in half and break them. What if I’m the breaker? I break people, Breakker, and then it came to me. Bron is part of my first name and that’s what we went with.”
There have been references to his father, Rick, and uncle, Scott, on television. Bron did note that he wants to make a name for himself and stand on his own, but there are certain things that can be used to remind fans that he is related to the legendary tag team.
Breakker will team with Carmelo Hayes, Grayson Waller, and Tony D’Angelo against Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, Pete Dunne, and LA Knight in the WarGames match at tonight’s NXT WarGames special.
