CM Punk is the Straight Edge Superstar but Bruce Prichard said on a recent episode of his wildly successful podcast Something To Wrestle With that when Phil Brooks first showed up in WWE nobody quite knew what to make of him.
Bruce says he wanted to know more about CM Punk so he took him up in an empty arena and interviewed him. During the interview it was revealed why CM Punk had so many tattoos and what they meant to him. Prichard said Punk explained to him what it meant to be Straight Edge as well and CM Punk eventually won the former Brother Love over.
โI looked at him and said, โso you donโt drink, you donโt do drugs, you donโt do anything?โ [CM Punk] says โno, but Iโm not a prude either.โ I said: โokay, explain that.โ So he explained that he really didnโt want to judge others that did choose that lifestyle and this is what got him over with me automatically.โ
โHe was in Kansas City or St Louis or somewhere and it was Harley Raceโs birthday. And he was in a camp โ Harleyโs camp and they were out at a restaurant bar type thing and they wanted to do โ everybody got shots for Harleyโs birthday. Now Punk doesnโt drink, donโt do drugs, but he took a shot out of respect for Harley Race.โ
โAnd he goes, โyou know, Harley asked me to do it, one shotโs not gonna kill me. Iโm not gonna go get hammered โ I took a shot out of respect for Harley Race.โ And for whatever reason I just thought that was cool. That just kinda showed the love and passion he had for the business and respect for the old-timers. He didnโt have to, and it would have been fine.โ
