The wrestling world has been buzzing about the status of Seth Rollins after he suffered an apparent knee injury at Saturday Night’s Main Event, and according to Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Live, the situation is a “weird story” with conflicting information coming from all sides.
The Incident
Alvarez recounted the events of the match, where Rollins landed awkwardly and was unable to walk to the back on his own power. He was later seen on crutches at the Evolution pay-per-view. “Everybody there is insisting that this is legitimate, that he is hurt,” Alvarez reported. “I know people close to Seth, who would be furious if they found out that he wasn’t hurt.”
The Conflicting Report
However, Alvarez then shared a major piece of conflicting information from fellow wrestling journalist John Pollock. “John Pollock, on his show, says, ‘I was told this entire scenario on Thursday,'” Alvarez stated. “Seth is going to do an injury angle, and he’s gonna be on crutches.’ … John Pollock is the real deal. He’s not making this story up.”
The “Cover” Theory
After weighing the contradictory reports, Alvarez shared a theory he received that could explain the situation. “Somebody… sent me a message, and they said, ‘This is what happened’… Seth has a knee injury, and that the injury on Saturday night’s main event was, in fact, not when he got hurt, but it was a cover,” he revealed.
The theory suggests Rollins has a legitimate but minor knee issue, and the dramatic angle was a “work” to make fans believe it’s a severe injury that will keep him out for many months. “He’s going to come back much earlier than expected, to do the surprise cash in,” Alvarez speculated. “That is what I think is going on. Because that would literally cover everything.”
Seth Rollins currently holds the Money in the Bank briefcase, guaranteeing him a world championship match at any time of his choosing. A long-term injury would require him to relinquish the briefcase, but a shorter absence could allow him to make a shocking return and cash in, as Alvarez suggested.
