Bull Dempsey talks about NXT wrestlers lacking starpower, Attitude Era, Dusty Rhodes

Former WWE NXT star Bull Dempsey recently appeared on Vince Russo’s “The Brand” podcast to talk about his career and more. During the interview, he was asked why there are not characters in NXT. Dempsey said that it makes sense due to the passing of Dusty Rhodes. He explained that when Rhodes was a coach at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida that he would get to know the talent and tap into their personalities, which would then create characters. Now, there are so many people in creative that creating new characters went away.

When asked the differences between Attitude Era characters compared to today’s characters, he said that Superstars would talk about previous wrestlers and noted that there was not one character during that era that was over. Now, the degree of getting over with the fans is up to the wrestler and how much they want to get over.
