Cain Velasquez appeared on Ariel Helwani’s MMA show on Monday.
Velasquez has been making pro wrestling headlines after he signed on to wrestle for AAA Lucha Libre. Helwani noted that this is the happiest he’s seen Velasquez in a long time. Velasquez said he’s been a wrestling fan since he was a kid and said he watched Mexican and American wrestling. He said he attended Elimination Chamber last year and that is when the idea sparked in his mind to consider trying pro wrestling.
Velasquez said he’s had talks with WWE and he said he’s willing to learn as much as he can. He also confirmed that he’s had talks with All Elite Wrestling and said he likes what they are doing and wants to talk more with them. He confirmed that he is not retired from UFC but would like to do both MMA and pro wrestling.
“I would love to wrestle for other places as well too,” he said. “We’ve been in talks with them [and] they are going pretty good,” he said about WWE talks.
On Cody Rhodes and AEW: “I’ve talked to him a little bit. I want to talk to him a little more. I think they are doing great things…I think AEW is doing some really cool things. They have a good relationship with AAA as well … AEW does a lot of Lucha wrestling which I think is pretty cool. I really like what they are doing as far as the wrestling aspect of it…”
