Last month it was revealed that Cain Velasquez had been released by WWE as part of their staff and talent release dues to budget cuts.
When news broke, many fans wondered whether Velasquez would continue his pro wrestling career or make a jump back to fighting as an MMA fighter inside of the Octagon under the UFC banner.
AKA head coach Javier Mendez, who used to train the former UFC Heavyweight Champion, made an appearance on Luke Thomas’ Sirius XM show on Wednesday. During the interview, Mendez was asked what the future holds for Cain.
Thomas tweeted out the following regarding Mendez’ response:
“Just spoke to Javier Mendez of AKA. We talked about a lot, but I asked if Cain Velasquez could return to MMA/UFC given reports he’d been released by WWE. Mendez said that was not going to happen. “He’s wrestling,” he said.”

Prior to signing with WWE last year, it was reported that Velasquez had a ton of interest from various pro wrestling promotions including AAA, NJPW, and AEW.
In fact, Dave Meltzer had reported that Cain was in talks with AEW and WWE but the former UFC star signed with WWE instead.
Prior to his WWE debut, he had found success while working under a mask in AAA. There’s speculation that Cain could return to Mexico for his next run in the pro wrestling business.
