Carmella on WWE Exit: I Felt Like I Was Punished Because I Had a Baby

Carmella is moving into a different chapter in her career. Her WWE contract expired after she went on hiatus in 2023, when she and Corey Graves welcomed their first child into the world together. She was then sidelined due to a non-wrestling-related injury called Drop Foot.

Ahead of her appearance on the Barely Famous podcast this Friday, the former WWE star Carmella revealed that she feels penalized for having a child during her two-year hiatus. She further claimed that her departure from the company was not by her own choice.

“It just feels like a sh***y way to end a twelve-year career with the company,” she said. “Like, this is how it ended. I got a call saying that my contract was up in ten days…ghosted. Ghosted, completely ghosted. What if this is the end of my career? Like, what am I doing with my life? What do I have to offer? Why wasn’t I given an opportunity somewhere else…I feel like I’m being punished because I had a baby.”

When it was suggested WWE could change their minds, Carmella didn’t seem interested in a return.

“Why would you want to be somewhere that doesn’t want you?,” she added. “I wish more for women in general and moms and especially athletes. I feel like you shouldn’t have to choose one. Why can’t you have both?”
