Cesaro is no longer under contract with WWE

Cesaro is no longer under contract with WWE as his deal expired with the company. PWinsider.com was the first to report the news. The two sides had been in talks about a new deal, but couldn’t come to an agreement on terms. Due to his contract expiring, he is not under a non-compete clause and is clear to sign with any promotion he wants immediately.

Fightful Select reports that the reaction from those in the company was disappointment and dismay because Cesaro is well-liked. WWE did offer him a new contract, but he turned it down.

WWE did sign him to a one-year extension last year, which recently expired. The company did have plans for him on upcoming shows, but nothing long-term. Cesaro was on a seven-match losing streak on television dating back to November and there was no indication he was going to re-sign nor no incentive by WWE to push him accordingly.

This isn’t the first time that this has happened with Cesaro as when they were in talks last year, WWE pulled him from a top contender gauntlet match because he hadn’t signed. Cesaro will not have any trouble finding work as he is a highly respected wrestler.
