Charlotte Flair Discusses Unlikely Partnership With Alexa Bliss Ahead Of WWE SummerSlam

In an exclusive interview with Emily Mae of WrestlingNews.co during SummerSlam weekend, WWE icon Charlotte Flair opened up about her recent journey of recovery and vulnerability, as well as her unexpected new tag team partnership with Alexa Bliss as they head into a major championship match. An Unexpected Alliance

Flair was candid about her new team with Bliss, admitting the pairing was a complete surprise to her. “Wasn’t on my bingo card for 2025,” she said. “But I think some of the greatest things come out of surprises and things that aren’t expected. And that’s what this has been. And I’m looking forward to seeing how SummerSlam goes, but it’s just been week to week fun working with her.” Flair believes their long history as individuals allows them to work well together without compromising their established characters. “Neither character takes away from the other… I can still be Charlotte flair, and she can take the piss out of Charlotte, and she can still be Alexa Bliss, and I can take the piss out of Alexa, but it works, you know.”

Vulnerability in “Unreal”

The conversation shifted to the recent “Unreal” documentary, which chronicled Flair’s recovery from a major knee injury and showcased a side of her rarely seen by the public. “I think for so long, I thought what made Charlotte so special was that she was so perfect or untouchable or just a bad bitch, right?” Flair reflected. “But really, like in the last year, what I felt that has made Charlotte all those things, was the person behind it going through all of these life lessons and trauma. And I’m far from perfect, like the last thing, like messy, emotional, you know, human.”

Strength in Imperfection

Flair explained that she has learned to embrace her struggles and sees her vulnerability as a newfound source of strength. “I think that’s what has made Charlotte so strong… letting the fans know, like, ‘Hey, this is me,’ and I think opening up when for so long, I didn’t want anyone to see those sides of me, because I didn’t think that’s what it meant to be strong where I’m like now it is,” she said.

A Message to the Fans

She concluded with an empowering message for fans who have followed her journey or may be facing their own obstacles. “Showing your battle scars is what’s made me indestructible,” Flair stated. “So I think that’s for men and women all ages. It’s the imperfections that make us special, not the things that look perfect from the outside.”

Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss will challenge Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship at SummerSlam, streaming live this Saturday, August 2. The event airs exclusively on Peacock in the United States and on the WWE Network everywhere else.
