Charlotte Flair is slated to challenge Rhea Ripley for the Raw Women’s Title at tonight’s WWE Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event.
To promote it, she did an interview with Sports Illustrated. Flair made it known that while she had a feud with Ripley last year that saw her win the NXT Women’s Title at WrestleMania 36, she’s glad that they have a chance to tell a deeper story.
She noted, “I am disappointed with how our story played out in NXT.” However, she does love their WrestleMania 36 match because she will talk about it for years to come.
Flair stated that now is the time to tell their story and she needs to bring the best she has to do what is needed for this story. She thinks they have to bring out the best in each other so Ripley can take the ball and run with it in the future as well as make a name for herself.
“I feel a personal responsibility to make sure she is a star. When I was in her spot, I remember how fragile and nervous and uncomfortable I was. I remember seeing Nikki Bella walking out and thinking, ‘She is a such a star.’ When I held the Divas championship, I felt like it owned me. I wish someone would have say, ‘Come at me and prove to me who you are.’ I want to do that for Rhea. I keep hearing she’s the future, so let’s go out there and see it.”
Flair stated that she wants to outdo what she has already done and thinks they can have a better match than they did at WrestleMania 36.
“Now we have a story behind us. We’re going to steal the show. This is going to be the match of the night.”
Flair also talked about missing WrestleMania 37, the women’s division, and more. Check out the full interview here.
