Chelsea Green Attempted To Bring The Divas Era Back To WWE

Chelsea Green has revealed that she unsuccessfully pitched a custom title belt to WWE management. The current Women’s United States Champion, who has often embraced a more character-driven persona reminiscent of the “Divas” era, wanted to lean fully into that aesthetic for her title reign. Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Green detailed her request.

‘A Divas United States custom championship? I asked. It’s not happening. I really did try. I tried so hard. I wanted to do a Divas open challenge. I wanted to do the whole shebang,’ Green stated.

Respecting The Past

Green acknowledged the potential reasons why the idea was shot down, noting the hard work of previous generations to move away from the “Diva” label. ‘But I understand that the women before me, it’s fun for me, because I wasn’t a diva, but the women before me fought so hard to kind of end that stigma. I don’t know if bringing it back right now would do those women justice.’

Despite the rejection, Green remains hopeful that the concept could work in the future. ‘Maybe in 10 years, maybe the girls from NXT can come up and do it in the future, but I will continue trying. I will keep pushing.’

Green also discussed her “US Open Challenge” idea in general, confirming that she is ready to be a fighting champion. ‘Ethan [Page] is teaching me to face our fears head-on, so did I pitch to have an open challenge? Yes, because I’m a fighting champion now! I’m gonna need a sauna and some ice packs, but I will be a fighting champion!’
