Chelsea Green: “The Hardest Place to Experience a Setback Is NXT”

Chelsea Green discussed the intense pressure of suffering an injury while in the WWE NXT system, explaining that the fear of being forgotten is a major mental hurdle.

“The hardest place to experience a setback is NXT, because you’re trying so hard to get to the main roster, and you’re so short-sighted of everything,” Green said during her appearance on the Lightweights Podcast. “You’re literally scratching and clawing to get to the top… and it’s a really unhealthy relationship with ourselves and with our coworkers and with the industry. And that all goes away once you get to the main roster.”

Green broke her wrist in her very first televised NXT match but said her mindset was always to move forward. However, she acknowledged the difficulty of being on the sidelines in developmental.

“When you have an injury, you feel like, ‘Oh my god, out of sight, out of mind. I’m never getting to the main roster. They’re never going to see what I’m worth,'” she explained. “The world keeps turning… your friends have just continued their life without you.”
