Chelsea Green On Matt Cardona’s WWE Return: ‘I Know How Hard I Worked To Get Back Here. He Worked Even Harder’

Chelsea Green recently discussed the emotional weight and logistical challenges behind the return of her husband, Matt Cardona, to WWE. Speaking on TMZ Inside The Ring, Green revealed that while she got her initial nerves out of the way during his surprise appearance in the John Cena tournament, his official return on SmackDown brought a different kind of pressure.

Green noted the incredible effort Cardona put into his journey back to the company, noting that he spent five years reinventing himself on the independent circuit.

“I know how hard I worked to get back here. He worked even harder to get back here. He worked twice as long on the Indies this time around,” Green said. “He really reinvented himself. And that was also kind of like where a little bit of the nerves came into play. How, how are we going to go from like transitioning him out of Zack Ryder and into Matt Cardona and still paying respects to who he was?”

She highlighted the challenge of re-educating the WWE audience, many of whom may only remember him as “Zack Ryder” and might not be aware of his transformation into the “Indie God” or his death match against Nick Gage.

“They won’t have known that he trended worldwide for a death match against Nick Gage… that he’s a completely different person,” she explained. “Like all those things, are things we need to now introduce the WWE Universe to.”

Green also touched on the new dynamic of working in the same company as her spouse for the first time in their nearly decade-long relationship. When asked what it’s like, she jokingly admitted there are already some growing pains.

“This will be the first time that we’re truly in a company together… so it’s going to be a learning curve, and I already am annoyed with him, but that’s okay,” Green joked.
