Chelsea Green Talks Potential Matt Cardona Return To WWE: ‘We’re Waiting. It’s Gonna Happen, I Hope’

During her interview on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, Chelsea Green was asked about the possibility of her husband, Matt Cardona, returning to WWE, where he previously spent many years under the name Zack Ryder.

“We’re waiting. It’s gonna happen, I hope,” Green stated, expressing her optimistic view on Cardona potentially rejoining WWE. Green passionately advocated for her husband’s return, emphasizing his significant evolution as a performer since his departure from the company in 2020.

“Honestly, I could go on a whole podcast rant about all the things he’s done and why he deserves to be back, there’s nobody who has recreated themselves like him. Cody [Rhodes] did a great job of recreating himself, but at the end of the day Cody is Cody. Matt was a babyface for almost 20 years in WWE. His career was just all him being a babyface. Nobody believed he could be a heel and then he went out and became the biggest heel on the Indies ever. Well, I actually think the biggest star the Indies has ever seen, period.”

After his WWE release, Cardona embraced his real name and adopted the moniker “The Indie God,” portraying a confident and often arrogant heel persona. This stark contrast to his previous babyface run as Zack Ryder showcased his versatility and drew significant attention and critical acclaim within the independent circuit. He has since held numerous championships in various promotions, including the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship, the Impact Digital Media Championship, and the GCW World Championship, earning the title of “Indie Wrestler of the Year” by Pro Wrestling Illustrated in both 2022 and 2023.
