Chelsea Green has often been praised for her ability to make the most of her time on television, whether she’s getting ten minutes or ten seconds. Green has been regularly featured since her WWE return in 2023, always finding a way to be involved weekly on television. Speaking on The Ghost of Hollywood podcast, Green commented on her rise and the autonomy she has earned from the creative team.
“They just kept giving me reassurance that what I was doing was right, so every week I pushed the boundary and the envelope,” Green stated. “Now, we’re at a point where the writers are so incredible with me. They basically just tell me what vibe they want from me and then, I write my own promos, I come up with a lot of the things I do, like the character moments. All that stuff in the past three years is because WWE has put full and total trust in me.”
Finding the Silver Lining in the Royal Rumble
Green’s journey to becoming a staple of the women’s division was not always a straight line. She revealed that during her return at the 2023 Royal Rumble, she felt somewhat overlooked as the spotlight shifted toward the return of Nia Jax. However, she credits that environment for allowing her to experiment and eventually find the “Karen” persona that resonated so strongly with the WWE fans.
“All that came about because they were so busy with the Royal Rumble, everyone cared more about Nia Jax’s return, and I kind of got pushed to the side, and that ended up being for my complete benefit,” Green explained. “I’m so thankful it happened that way.” Her willingness to lean into the comedy of a record-breaking five-second elimination that night laid the groundwork for the creative freedom she enjoys today.
“Our President” and the Road to WrestleMania 42
In recent weeks, Green has pivoted her character once again into the role of “Our President,” making administrative decisions and forming a “cabinet” while recovering from a legitimate ankle injury. On the February 6 episode of SmackDown, she suffered a significant injury during an Elimination Chamber qualifying match. While her in-ring status remains week-to-week, she has utilized a wheelchair and a walking boot on television to maintain her presence.
