Chris Hemsworth to play Hulk Hogan in movie headed to Netflix

A deal is close to being finalized with Netflix for the rights to a movie on the life of Hulk Hogan. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news.

Chris Hemsworth will play the role of Hogan and it will cover his wrestling career and aspects of his personal life. Hogan started wrestling in the late 1970s as a heel and would turn into a fan favorite in the early 1980s in Verne Gagne’s AWA where Hulkamania was born.

Hogan became the most recognizable wrestler in the country when he jumped to the World Wrestling Federation and helped usher in wrestling’s boom period alongside Roddy Piper, Andre The Giant, Randy Savage, and others.

THR reports that the biopic will not dip into some of the negative stories that have followed him in recent years but it will focus on Hogan’s rise. Hogan will act as a consultant and executive producer.

Academy Award Winner Michael Sugar will produce via Netflix-based Sugar23. Director Todd Phillips and Bradley Cooper will produce the film alongside writer Scott Silver. Hemsworth and Eric Bischoff are also listed as producers.
