Since the match between Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega has been made official for Wrestle Kingdom 12 on January 4, there have been a number of discussions on whether Vince McMahon and the WWE were aware of what happened. While some felt that Chris Jericho went to Vince to get his good graces, others believed that he did not let McMahon know, neither should he have, since he is no longer under contract.
Jericho cleared the air regarding McMahon’s awareness on the recent episode of The Ross Report. In fact, Jericho had great things to say about Vince, affirming that they still maintain a good relationship. Jericho stated that despite people criticizing McMahon’s business decisions when it comes to his product, he still has a keen sense of knowing what is best for business. Jericho added that him going to New Japan helps the WWE as well, since the level of competition is rising nowadays with companies such as NJPW.
When asked by Jim Ross whether McMahon knew about his angle with Omega before it occurred at Power Struggle, this was Jericho’s response.
“You know how smart I am throughout my career, and you know the relationship I have with Vince, and I would never jeopardize that, or give him any nasty surprises. So, I’ll just leave it at that.”
Jericho would also affirm that he is “a WWE guy,” but he would have considered it a “crime” not to jump on this opportunity from both a financial and publicity standpoint. He added that Vince would have felt the same way too, if Jericho refused to work with Omega, and this is “perfect timing.”
