Chris Jericho pitched an IWGP IC Champion vs. WWE IC Champion match for SummerSlam

On his latest podcast, Chris Jericho revealed that he made a pitch for SummerSlam that would involve the IWGP Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam. Jericho said, “I placed a call to a certain head of a certain wrestling company, let’s just leave it at that. I said, ‘I’ve got something for ya. It’s boffo box office. It’s big time.”

Jericho continued, “I said ‘what do you think about first-time ever Intercontinental Champion vs. Intercontinental Champion, Jericho vs. Rollins.’ What’s the finish? Doesn’t matter.”

Jericho suggested that whoever is next to feud with Rollins would run down to the ring and beat Jericho up and then there’s a staredown between that person and Rollins. Jericho said that all he had to do was show up on the Monday before SummerSlam and run through the crowd to attack Rollins and that would be the set up for the match. “I pitched it, got a decent response and never heard a word again.”

Jericho also noted (he told this story before) that he was supposed to be Shane McMahon’s replacement at WrestleMania as Daniel Bryan’s tag team partner.

It sounds like the idea for SummerSlam was pitched back in June before Rollins lost the Intercontinental Championship to Ziggler and around the time Jericho won the IWGP Intercontinental Championship from Tetsuya Naito.

The podcast features a full preview/prediction show for SummerSlam and there is a funny moment when Jericho realizes that PCO and former WWE Star Pierre Carl Ouelette are the same person.
