Steve Fall’s Ten Count uploaded a clip from an interview with former WWE star Chris Masters (aka Chris Adonis). Masters was asked if he would like to be in The Royal Rumble:
“You know, the desire is always there a little bit because this is what I love to do, and I still do it. Even as far as last year, as long as I’ve been outside of WWE, I’ve never pitched a comeback and it’s just because I just didn’t look at it as an option after the second time. After the first time, sure, but after the second time I was like, I gotta move on. I still want to wrestle, but it’s just not going to be on television with WWE, and that’s okay. I can do other things in the business as well as time goes on. But this last year at the Royal Rumble was the first time in, shoot, it’s been well over 10 years. I’d seen MVP come back. I’ve seen Shelton come back. I’ve seen Carlito come back. I kind of felt like, sure, it’s been 10 years. I mean, it feels like a good time. It’s been so long. It’s like, who else can they bring back that will be a bigger surprise at this point out of at least those guys that have been gone?”
“Then when you also think of the whole Bobby Lashley aspect, the idea of the Hurt Lock-Master Lock thing. So when Royal Rumble came around, I kind of started to petition for it a little bit and there were some talks with even some of the people I knew within WWE, so it wasn’t like it was just, you know, going on deaf ears. Bobby last year ended up not being in the Rumble. If you remember, everything changed. Everything got flipped upside down. So that kind of took a lot of steam out of it.”
“Let me just make one thing clear before we move off this. When I petitioned for this, it wasn’t for the sake of like, ‘Oh, I need to make a comeback to WWE, or I want to make a comeback. and this should lead to something.’ I know as wrestling fans, we’re always looking for that, ‘Oh, shit moment.’ You would have that moment of Hurt Lock-Master Lock. It’s finally going to happen.”
