Former WWE Superstar Christian recently appeared on WWE’s After The Bell w/Corey Graves. Captain Charisma would discuss a number of topics during the podcast, including his time with WWE Backstage and analysing the current product.
One of the points raised during the interview was the creation of WWE Network’s Edge and Christian Show That Totally Reeks of Awesomeness.
“Edge and I had done the Steve Austin podcast” Christian began. “We have a good rapport with Steve and you know we joked around backstage. We did a little thing where he he pulled out a little ukulele and little cowboy hat and did a whole thing. I think I jokingly said on there ‘oh yeah they’re going to give us our own network show.’
Christian elaborated further, saying “we’re gonna do this every week! And then somebody when we were done that had said, ‘hey, maybe you guys should do a show.’ We just kind of left it at that. Next thing you know we get a call saying ‘you guys really want to try to do something? What do you want to do? It’s up to you.'”
“So we got started spitballing ideas and we came up with the with the ‘Edge and Christian Show That Totally Reeks of Awesomeness.’ Basically a variety show, it never been done before, and it was a variety show with a wrestling theme. So it gave us a chance to get the WWE Superstars and kind of play them against type. Put them in different situations than you’d expect to see them in and have some fun.”
“For the second season? We decided what we were going to do is we were going to hunker down in North Carolina. All [including writers] in a room for a week, and we were going to write the entire season in a week. So that’s what we did for the second season, we wrote the entire thing first; before anything was shot and I think that that really helped out the process and made things a lot smoother.”
