This week’s episode of WWE Backstage could be very newsworthy.
As everyone knows by now, CM Punk appeared at the end of last week’s show and he will be a contributor to the show for some weeks. On Twitter, he said that he’s been catching up on 5+ years of wrestling and noted that most of the bright spots have been what the women have been doing. He also noted that he’s seen some bad things and he is going to walk about it. “No one is safe,” Punk said.
What is interesting is that he tagged WWE’s Vince McMahon and AEW’s Tony Khan, which strongly implies that he will address them tomorrow night.
Punk is not under a WWE contract and works for Fox Sports, similar to what Ariel Helwani was doing when UFC Tonight aired on FS1. It will be interesting to see if Punk talks about his own personal history with Vince McMahon.
In regards to Tony Khan, it’s no secret that Punk and AEW were in talks and Khan met face-to-face with Punk. We don’t know if Punk will talk about those talks or if he will stick to discussing AEW’s product.
Either way, it will be interesting to hear AEW being talked about on a show that is meant to promote WWE TV. WWE Backstage will air live at 11 pm eastern on Tuesday night on Fox Sports 1.
