CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns Has Been Internally Discussed For WWE WrestleMania 41

WWE is approaching WrestleMania 41 season with plans starting to be put into place. For fans, they may not have to wait long to see a match between CM Punk and Roman Reigns.

On a recent edition of a Backstage Pass Q&A, WrestleVotes reported that WWE wants Punk in a World Title match at WWE WrestleMania 41. Reigns has long been speculated to be working with The Rock or Solo Sikoa at Mania, although The Rock is currently not planned to wrestle at the show while Reigns meets Solo in a Tribal Combat match on January 6th for the Raw Netflix debut.

Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported today that Punk vs. Reigns at next year’s WrestleMania has been heavily discussed. It was said, “We’d heard a number of weeks ago that this wasn’t particularly the plan, but had been adjusted of late. We’re told that CM Punk had also hoped for the match.”

Fightful was told that this was a drastically different direction than what had been planned for both talents even a couple of months ago, none of which had involved The Rock. If Rock tells WWE he can be involved in Mania, then much of the card could change.

Punk did a post-WWE interview months ago where he mentioned WWE telling him to “make Roman look strong.” He also referred to this in his infamous interview on Colt Cabana’s podcast years ago. Fightful was told last year ahead of Punk’s return that “Reigns was a talent that was not keen on him returning.”

Punk teamed with Reigns and the rest of the OG Bloodline as a favor to Paul Heyman to take on the New Bloodline in WarGames.
