Cody Rhodes has hinted at wanting fresh rivalries after WWE WrestleMania 42, saying he is getting tired of wrestling the same opponents. Speaking on The Nikki and Brie Show, Rhodes was asked about his upcoming championship match against Randy Orton and used the opportunity to reflect more broadly on the nature of long-running rivalries in WWE. His initial comment drew a reaction from the hosts before he clarified his meaning.
“I hope that doesn’t put a rain on anyone’s parade, but I’m getting tired of wrestling (the same) guys,” Rhodes said, drawing immediate pushback from Nikki and Brie Bella. He quickly elaborated. “No, no. You get into these longstanding rivalries, and you’re just like, you’re in there. Me and your husband wrestled four times now. Like, and more than that really, but like four. And I think took a great deal out of each other on the way. I mean, so I don’t know if that’s what I’m looking to do here. As much as I want Randy Orton to see me, that’s the hill in front of me.”
Rhodes has faced Seth Rollins a total of 22 times across televised and live event matches since returning to WWE in 2022, making their series one of the most extensive rivalries of the modern era.
Rhodes defends the Undisputed WWE Championship against Orton in the Night 1 main event of WrestleMania 42 on April 18 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
