Cody Rhodes vs. Aleister Black Set for SmackDown Main Event
WWE SmackDown started with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes coming to the ring. Rhodes immediately addressed his rival, Drew McIntyre.
Cody Rhodes Moves On
Cody said it was Drew McIntyre who introduced the WWE Championship into the match at Saturday Night’s Main Event,” setting the stage for their title bout. He then dismissed his foe, stating “Drew is one of the most self-sabotaging wrestlers in the history of the business, and at this point, and at this point, I’m moving on.”
With McIntyre “now in the rear view mirror,” Cody said he was planning to take a different approach to find his next challenger. “Cody said he is going to sit with the fans to watch the show and see who is next in line for his championship.”
A New Challenger Emerges
Before Rhodes could leave, Aleister Black and Zelina came to the ring. Black declared his intentions, stating “he has a chip on his shoulder and it’s the size of the Undisputed WWE title.”
This prompted the champion to prepare for a fight. “Cody took off his suit, turned around, and Zelina slapped him in the face.”
As tensions escalated, SmackDown GM Nick Aldis came out to restore order. He addressed the new challenger directly, telling Black “he can fight Cody in the ring tonight.” The match was made official for later in the evening.
