Cody Rhodes Pitched The Return Of The “Brother Love” Character

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has revealed a surprising creative pitch he made to WWE executive Bruce Prichard. On a recent podcast, Rhodes stated that he wanted Prichard to reprise his “Brother Love” character to be the one to present him with the iconic “Winged Eagle” WWE Championship belt.

Speaking on the “What Do You Wanna Talk About?” podcast, Rhodes was discussing his return to WWE and the creative process with his guest, Bruce Prichard. He then shared the story of his pitch for a Brother Love return. “I knew Brother Love wasn’t coming back when I asked you to be Brother Love to present me with the Winged Eagle Title. I wanted it,” Rhodes said.

The “Brother Love Show” was a popular interview segment in the late 1980s and early 1990s, with Prichard portraying the red-faced televangelist character. The character is also famous for being the original manager of The Undertaker.

Rhodes admitted that he made the pitch somewhat jokingly, but that he was serious about wanting it to happen. “I think I said as if it was a joke, and you’re like, ‘Haha, no,’” Rhodes recalled. “I wanted Brother Love in the ring going into Saturday Night’s Main Event with the Winged Eagle Title.”

The “Winged Eagle” championship belt, which was the top title in WWE during the late 1980s and 1990s, has become a fan-favorite. He brought back the title earlier this year for a feud with Kevin Owens. The full conversation between Cody Rhodes and Bruce Prichard can be heard on the “What Do You Wanna Talk About?” podcast.
