Cody Rhodes Recalls The Drunk Text He Sent To Kofi Kingston

In a revealing and humorous look behind the curtain, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes shared a unique personal rule he enforces in his private group chats with other wrestlers. Speaking on his What Do You Want to Talk About? podcast, Rhodes explained his philosophy on “roasting the boys” and admitted to sending some heartfelt late-night texts.

The “One Nice Thing” Rule

Rhodes explained to his guest, Ricky Saints, that while he’s not against joking at another wrestler’s expense, he has one important ground rule. “What’s my rule in the group chat, when we say something?” Rhodes asked. “You have to say something nice. We could bury someone for days, but you had to say one nice thing, at least one”.

He elaborated on his reasoning for the rule, stating, “I don’t like gang warfare. I don’t like when it’s all, we all go in on one person who tweeted something dumb or something”.

Saints’ Proposed Amendment

His guest, Ricky Saints, humorously called Rhodes out on the rule. “I’d like to make an amendment to that type of rule, though, because I never hear you say something nice first,” Saints joked. He then proposed his own version of the rule, which he called the “sandwich” method. “You want a sandwich, then you want to… we start positive, then we eat them alive, then we end on a good note. You should always end on a good note, right?”.

Drunken Texts of Praise

While discussing friendships in the business, Rhodes also shared a funny admission about what he does on his days off. He confessed that he still feels a strong connection to the wrestlers he came up with in WWE’s developmental system. “This is probably an overshare, but I think Miz figured it out,” Rhodes began. “I still will, every now and then, get drunk and just text them and tell them how good of wrestlers they are… I remember one night I texted Kofi out of nowhere, just because I was so proud and so happy”.
