Cody Rhodes dropped the NWA World Heavyweight Championship last night at the NWA 70th anniversary show in Nashville, Tennessee.
The title loss now has fans speculating on his future. It’s clear that Ring Of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling want to keep him and there are already rumors out there about a possible All In 2 show. The word is that Cody and The Young Bucks would like to do All In 2 on Memorial Day and a possible third show on Labor Day.
At this point, any rumors out there on The Elite would be premature because no one will know anything until January when WWE can legally make a money offer to them. WWE is not going to offer anything to them before their ROH/NJPW contracts expire because they don’t want to be accused of tampering.
I wouldn’t take the NWA title loss as a hint of anything because the fact is that Nick Aldis is being groomed as the big star and Rhodes is not going to be wrestling full-time for the NWA so it made sense for him to drop the title. It also makes sense if they plan on doing a third match.
2019 will be an interesting year with WWE having more money on hand than ever before because of their deal with Saudi Arabia, FOX Sports, and NBCUniveral. Their roster is bigger than it’s ever been and it looks like it could get more crowded in a few months.
