Cody Rhodes: “If They Think I’m A Heel, Then I’m A Heel”

As he heads into his SummerSlam main event against John Cena, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has shot down the idea of a potential heel turn, stating that he is not changing his game regardless of fan speculation.

Cody Rhodes Shoots Down Heel Turn Possibility

Speaking with Gabby LaSpisa on Gabby AF, Rhodes was asked about the possibility of a “double turn” in his feud, given that his opponent John Cena has been a heel for the past five months. “The American Nightmare” was clear that he has no plans to make a pivot.

“People talk about, ‘Oh, I bet they’re going to do this double turn.’ No,” Rhodes said. “I think, to take a page out of [Cena’s] book, if they think I’m a heel, then I’m a heel. To me, I’m not changing my game. It would be detrimental to the place I work to make a pivot.”

A Feud With A Complicated Alignment

The speculation about a potential double turn has been fueled by the complex nature of the rivalry. Cena turned heel at the Elimination Chamber event in February, but on last week’s go-home episode of SmackDown, he seemingly reverted back to his babyface persona, thanking Cody for helping him remember who he was.

The question of alignments will be settled this weekend at SummerSlam. On Night Two of the premium live event this Sunday, August 3rd, Cody Rhodes will challenge John  Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship in a highly-anticipated Street Fight.
