Cody Rhodes has shared his high expectations for the in-ring quality of WrestleMania 42, describing the event as a potential standout for “bell-to-bell” wrestling. During an interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, the Undisputed WWE Champion noted that the matches currently coming together suggest one of the strongest lineups in the event’s history. Rhodes highlighted the two nights of main events, featuring Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk and himself vs. Randy Orton, as pillars of this expected performance level.
“And this place certainly gets all of me, so I would have been able to dig in. But I think looking at WrestleMania this year, and I said it, and I said it incorrectly. I said sleeper Mania, which would imply that people are sleeping on it, and that’s not what I meant. What I think you’re going to get from this year’s WrestleMania is you have two main events with Roman and Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship and myself and Randy, and the show that’s filling out with Stephanie and Liv and the show that you’re seeing kind of come together, because these matches are starting to become obvious what they are. I think bell-to-bell, you’re going to get one of the better Manias as ever, bell-to-bell. And I really, really like being part of that Wrestlemania.”
Rhodes also looked back at his 2022 return to WWE at WrestleMania 38, admitting that he could not have predicted the level of success he has achieved over the last four years. He revealed that when he originally signed to return, he only knew about his scheduled match with Seth Rollins and a follow-up promo on Monday Night Raw. His primary goal at the time was simply winning the WWE Championship to complete the story of his father, Dusty Rhodes.
“I signed, I knew I was gonna wrestle Seth and I knew I was gonna have a promo on Monday. Those are the only two things I knew about my return,” Rhodes explained. He noted that he requested to write his own return promo to ensure the mission statement for his comeback was communicated clearly to the fans.
WWE is continuing to build the 14-to-16 match card for WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas. The event will take place on April 18 and 19 at Allegiant Stadium.
