There’s been a lot of talk in wrestling on how NXT touring will affect Ring of Honor. This is more of a concern than you’d think since ROH has budget issues. Kevin Kelly noted this week on Jim Ross’ podcast that one of the reasons why Sinclair Broadcasting is not spending money for the lighting at the shows is because the lighting grid would require them to set up a day early and that would mean that they would have to pay an extra day of rent to the facility. The budget issues is also one of the reasons why Alberto El Patron is not expected to be on more shows (except the ones he has already committed to) because he is not cheap.
NXT appeals to hardcore fans that want more wrestling and less talking and they already feature some former top ROH stars and NXT has more of a buzz right now among fans after the string of great NXT TakeOver specials. The weekly show is consistently good as well. The concern is that if NXT runs more shows in the same areas and near the same dates as ROH then it would affect ROH. NXT is not touring full time yet but Triple H said last week on the NXT conference call that they were looking at touring near the end of the year. Most of the top names in NXT should be on the WWE main roster by then but one thing that ROH may need to worry about is WWE signing up more of their talent. Keep in mind that a lot of ROH’s talent is not under contract. Even the ones under contract will probably get a look from WWE when their deals expire.
Ring of Honor TV is now available on WSWB-CW in Wilkes-Barre. The show airs on Saturday nights at 11pm in that area. For full TV listings click here.
