SmackDown is moving to the Performance Center (UPDATED WITH WWE STATEMENT)

Although WWE denied this to be the case last night, it is now confirmed that this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown will take place at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

According to PWInsider, there were discussions going back and forth about moving the show from Detroit to Orlando but the final decision not made until this afternoon.

The move was made amid the coronavirus concerns with local governments advising against large public gatherings.

As noted earlier, WrestleMania events are still on as of now but that seems likely to change. There’s no word on plans for future WWE events but obviously, as coronavirus cases continue to increase, future WWE TV shows hang in the balance and it’s looking likely that Raw may also be moved to the Performance Center.

UPDATE WITH WWE STATEMENT: “Friday Night SmackDown on March 13 will air live as regularly scheduled and emanate from WWE’s training facility in Orlando, Florida with only essential personnel in attendance. The event was originally scheduled in Detroit, Michigan.”
