Corey Graves has revealed that he has already received medical clearance to compete and would seriously consider returning to in-ring action if the right opportunity presented itself, though he made clear that getting back into ring shape is a significant obstacle he is not currently motivated to tackle.
Speaking to TV Insider, Graves addressed the question of whether he could ever compete again after a career spent primarily behind the commentary desk following concussion-related complications that forced him to step away from wrestling. His answer was more open-ended than many might expect.
“I got medically cleared a couple of years ago,” Graves said. “I started to get back in shape. A lot of things changed within the company as far as everything. So I don’t foresee that happening in the foreseeable future if at all.”
Despite the clearance, Graves said the demanding lifestyle required to maintain in-ring condition is a genuine deterrent. “One major reason being is I don’t feel like staying in ring shape because it’s a lot of work,” Graves said. “I have the luxury of wearing a suit on TV. I like not watching what I eat.”
However, he stopped well short of closing the door entirely, saying the right storyline or setting could change his calculus in an instant. “Never say never,” Graves said. “I think if the right opportunity presented itself, whether that be in WWE or AAA, I would probably jump at the chance. At the same time, it’s not something I’m actively pursuing at the moment.”
Graves has been one of WWE’s main broadcast voices for nearly a decade, having transitioned to commentary after his in-ring career was ended by concussion issues. Recent moments, including taking from Brock Lesnar on WWE programming, have kept the conversation about a potential return alive.
