Cross-Promotional Tag Team Match Announced For WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event

WWE has officially added a cross-promotional tag team match to the card for Saturday Night’s Main Event XLII. The event, which is scheduled for Saturday, December 13, 2025, will feature current World Tag Team Champions AJ Styles and Dragon Lee facing off against the team of NXT’s Je’Von Evans and TNA Wrestling’s Leon Slater . This bout will be a non-title exhibition match. The announcement was made during the December 8 episode of Monday Night Raw, finalizing the lineup for the historic broadcast from the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. .

John Cena’s Final Match

The centerpiece of Saturday Night’s Main Event is the final match of John Cena’s 26-year wrestling career . Cena’s opponent was determined through the “Last Time Is Now” tournament, a multi-week competition held across Raw and SmackDown . The tournament concluded on the December 5 episode of SmackDown, where Gunther defeated LA Knight in the finals to secure the spot opposite Cena .

Gunther’s path to the main event involved victories over Je’Von Evans in the first round and Solo Sikoa in the semifinals before overcoming Knight.

Another marquee matchup scheduled for the event features Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes taking on the newly crowned NXT Champion Oba Femi. This match was set in motion on the December 5 episode of SmackDown, where Rhodes announced that he would face the winner of the NXT Championship match scheduled for NXT Deadline .

At NXT Deadline on December 6, Oba Femi defeated Ricky Saints to capture the NXT title, thereby earning the opportunity to face Rhodes in a Champion vs. Champion exhibition.

Rounding out the card is a singles match between Raw’s Bayley and NXT’s Sol Ruca . This match was announced during the December 5 broadcast of SmackDown.

Saturday Night’s Main Event XLII will take place live on Saturday, December 13, 2025. The event will be held at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. Fans in the United States can watch the event exclusively on Peacock.
