WWE sparked speculation among its fanbase on Sunday morning by posting a cryptic video across its social media platforms. The short clip simply shows someone walking purposefully from the waist down, wearing dress shoes and slacks. The company provided no caption or additional clues, leaving the individual’s identity a mystery.
The video immediately led WWE fans to flood the comments section with guesses about who might be returning or debuting. Among the names frequently mentioned in the speculation were GUNTHER and Santos Escobar. GUNTHER, a two-time former World Heavyweight Champion, has been off WWE television since early August. WWE announced he was out indefinitely due to multiple injuries sustained after losing his title to CM Punk at SummerSlam.
Before the injury, GUNTHER had defeated Goldberg in Goldberg’s retirement match during his second world title reign. His first reign lasted 273 days. He also holds the record for the longest Intercontinental Championship reign at 666 days. A recent report indicated that GUNTHER is “expected back very soon,” making him a plausible candidate for the teaser video.
Santos Escobar is another name fans are suggesting. The former NXT Cruiserweight Champion recently became a free agent when his contract expired, but quickly re-signed with WWE after the company addressed his creative concerns and presented a significantly improved offer. Escobar has been absent from WWE television since February, fueling rumors of his departure before the new deal was struck. Recent reports indicated Escobar was “slated to be at this Monday’s Raw taping in Anaheim, CA,” though an on-screen return wasn’t confirmed.
As of Sunday morning, WWE has offered no further hints about the identity of the person featured in the social media video. With WWE Raw scheduled for Monday night in Anaheim, California, it’s possible the mystery could be resolved soon, potentially revealing the return of either GUNTHER, Santos Escobar, or perhaps someone else entirely.
