Lizzie Myers, the wife of recently-released WWE Superstar Curt Hawkins, posted a blog about her husband's release from the company and how it has impacted their life.
Lizzie noted that she broke down when the call came from WWE and just a week before he was released, he was asked to fly to the Performance Center in Orlando for Monday Night Raw. She said, "I went from being scared of my husband coming home from work with the Coronavirus to days later him getting fired."
She also revealed that she is 30 weeks pregnant so she can't go back to her job in advertising right now. Lizzie wrote, "It’s not the most satisfying feeling when your husband loses his job and you don’t have one for you both to fall back on. I always said the past year, if I needed to get back into work I could and would get back into my field (thinking like 4-5 years if his contract didn’t renew), not expecting him to lose his job when I’m 2 months away from having our child let alone during a pandemic."
As previously noted, WWE claims that budget cuts were the reason for the recent releases. Ring Of Honor, Impact Wrestling, All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling don't have the same amount of money coming in as WWE and they have not released anyone. In fact, those companies continue to pay their wrestlers during the pandemic. WWE is still on track to bring in record revenue this year because of its TV contracts with FOX and NBCUniversal (USA Network).
