Curtis Axel has been added to the list of wrestlers and staff who have been released by WWE.
On Thursday, WWE issued a statement on their official website to confirm the news.
Their statement read, “WWE has come to terms on the release of Curtis Axel. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
Axel, formerly known as Michael McGillicutty, is the son of “Mr. Perfect” Curt Henning. During this time with the company he had a run as the Intercontinental Champion, won the Tag Team Titles twice as well as part of the New Nexus.
He was even managed by Paul Heyman at one time and got a chance to work with CM Punk for a few matches.
In recent years, Axel hadn’t been doing much on WWE television. These roster and staff cuts are part of WWE cutting back on their budget due to the financial impact of the coronavirus.
