WWE’s Head of Creative Triple H made a statement this past Saturday at SummerSlam by introducing the new faction of IYO Sky (Io Shirai), Bayley, and Dakota Kai.
They all returned after the opening bout that saw Bianca Belair successfully retain the Raw Women’s Title over Becky Lynch.
As previously reported, this faction was pitched quite a while before Dakota’s release, but Vince McMahon, who was still in charge of creative, turned down the idea. Other pitched versions of the faction included Raquel Rodriguez and Kay Lee Ray.
Kai worked for WWE for six years before being released in April. At the time, Kai told management that she wasn’t planning to renew her contract and wanted out of the company.
While appearing on today’s WWE’s The Bump, Kai spoke about her return and noted that it all happened at the last minute. It’s still unclear when Kai agreed to return to the company.
“You thought you’d seen the last of me, huh? It still feels like a whirlwind to me with everything that happened. It all happened so last minute too. To be talking with you guys right now is exciting. Everything that has happened since Saturday has been insane, it’s been crazy.”
Kai added that working with Bayley and Sky is something that she has wanted to do for years.
